Update 3:30 p.m.: Lightning strikes started four new fires near the Carlton complex fire this afternoon as a storm blew through with winds of more than of 40 mph. Wildfire evacuations ordered in Okanogan County

A new fire started near  Winthrop this afternoon, prompting evacuations. Gov. Jay Inslee tweeted this photo from his Twitter account. A wildfire between Twisp and Winthrop has prompted  evacuations in Okanogan County. Blues festival goes on, despite highway closures

The Winthrop Rhythm & Blues Festival opens Friday, although most routes to the festival from Central and Eastern Washington were closed this morning. “That doesn’t help us,” said the event’s secretary Peter Dammann. Winthrop marshal disciplined for drinking, then working

The Associated Press WENATCHEE – The top law enforcement officer of Winthrop, a small town in north-central Washington that attracts tourists with its Old West trappings, was disciplined in January for returning to duty after drinking alcohol twice last summer.  The Wenatchee World says public records show Marshal David Dahlstrom spent a week off the job without pay….
