There’s a chance of showers this weekend, but also a chance of sunshine. We’re staying optimistic. More from the National Weather Service forecast.
Gliding to glory: Bob Swenson, 90, of Bellevue, finally is getting an overdue Bronze Star medal for his heroism as a glider pilot during World War II. He flew one of the original stealth planes used in the war and is being honored for bravely landing the aircraft under fire.
Expanded evacuations ordered: Officials have widened the evacuation order near Sun Valley, Idaho, to 1,600 homes, as a wind-driven wildfire burned its way through sage and pine trees. More than 600 state and federal firefighters were working to get the blaze under control, and an additional 1,000 firefighters were expected to join them last night.
Can they break a world record? Organizers of a water-balloon fight at 4 p.m. at Seattle Center hope so. And, in case you need any extra incentive to run around in the sunshine (hopefully) lobbing water bombs at each other, the event will also raise money to send kids from Children’s Hospital to Camp Korey. Buying a $25 ticket will get you into the Seattle Party Camp from noon to 7 p.m. at Seattle Center’s International Fountain and Fisher Plaza. 12,000 people are expected to show up.
Hempfest is also happening today (and psst, there will be police offers handing out Doritos). Some 250,000 folks are expected to attend the three-day, pro-pot event at Myrtle Edwards Park on the Seattle waterfront near Belltown.
