Chasing Perry

Southern Thyme's Cafe is very much closed.

GREENVILLE — Today, Anita and I set out to find Governor Perry at three of his four scheduled appearances. The first was supposed to be a meet and greet at Bob Jones University. We packed the car and headed to Greenville. Then, we got the call.

According to The State newspaper’s twitter feed, Perry had cancelled his appearance at Bob Jones. As the feeds buzzed with speculations of withdrawal, his campaign simply cited logistics issues as the cause.

Well that’s okay, we thought. Let’s just catch him at his next stop, the Southern Thyme’s Cafe in historic downtown Greer.

Yet, when we arrived at the location, not only was Perry absent, the restaurant was closed. Outside stood three confused reporters, busily searching for answers on their smart phones.

Was this event cancelled, too? Or did The State get the time wrong? Perry’s twitter had been quiet for eight hours and neither his official website nor Facebook offered any guidance.

Now, we’re sitting in the Greenville Hilton parking lot, waiting for the Personhood USA Presidential Profile Forum to commence. It’s today’s last chance to catch the elusive governor.

Even if he does show, the campaign’s poor handling of appearances isn’t doing Perry any favors.
