Smellin’ a scoop

Sometimes the weirdest things come up when you’re shooting the breeze with basketball players. In one conversation, Storm center Lindsay Taylor revealed that she can’t smell.
Imagine that! On one hand it’s cool because even the women’s locker room reeks. But all of those wonderful scents that make up game day at KeyArena — hot dogs sizzling under heat lamps, fresh popcorn, and coffee brewing — Taylor has no clue about any of it. And she doesn’t mind.
Apparently Taylor, 24, was born with big adenoids, tissue behind the nose that blocked her sinus drainage. Her cousins have the same problem, but had their blockage cleared.
“I thought about getting them removed because it’ll help me breathe better, which would help with basketball and smell,” Taylor said. “But I’m afraid if I could smell, I’ll eat food. Everybody talks about going to a movie theater and eating the popcorn. I’m already bad, I don’t need that. But I love flowers a lot, so I want to smell flowers. That’s the only thing I want to smell.”
Shout out
Happy birthday to forward Lauren Jackson, who turns 25 today. We would feel sorry for her having to fly to Chicago and practice on her personal holiday and all. But it’s Chicago. Surely she’ll find a hot spot to celebrate with teammates.
