Championship snub

Well, the Storm’s 2004 championship win doesn’t rate with the 1,300 voters who participated in ESPN’s Web vote for the best WNBA championship team. Seattle lost to the 2000 Houston Comets in a play-in game that advanced the Comets to the real tournament as a No. 8 seed facing the No. 1 seeded 1998 Comets.
Personally I’d like to know why Seattle was a play-in, especially considering some of Houston’s wins. Not to dog the Comets, but the WNBA was nowhere near as talented then and the Storm-Connecticut series was the first to sell out and nab substantial ratings until the Connecticut-Sacramento series, which the Monarchs won in 2005. That should at least give the Storm the No. 6 seed in a bracket that’s already wacky.
