Great escape

OK, the recent traveling woes of All-Stars Lauren Jackson and Sue Bird have been fretted, especially given Jackson’s chronic left shin. But the duo didn’t have the longest, quickest turnaround this week.
Storm forward Iziane Castro Marques actually hopped a 17-hour, red-eye flight on Sunday to Sao Paulo, Brazil to meet her beau. She spent exactly two days in her native country before returning for practice on Thursday.
And although Storm coach Anne Donovan complained of team rust after the session, Castro Marques didn’t show much in the game against New York on Friday. Still, she had more fouls (four) than points (two) with three assists in 14 minutes. She also helped draw a second technical on Liberty forward Loree Moore, who threw an elbow at Castro Marques to be ejected from the matchup.
