False alarm

Storm star Lauren Jackson will return to Seattle late Friday (her 26th birthday) and teammate Sue Bird will make sure of it, sitting next to the forward on the flight from Russia.
The pair won the Russian league championship today and Bird called the Storm front office to say both were headed home. Bird didn’t mention whether Italian guard Francesca Zara would be joining them. Zara, who played for the Storm in 2005, was signed as a free agent to compete with Tanisha Wright for backup point guard minutes.
An Australian report stated Jackson wouldn’t return to Seattle until May 19, the Storm’s season opener against Houston. Jackson will miss the entire exhibition season, but the team doesn’t have to worry about her missing any games that count. At least not because she’s resting on a Aussie beach, that is.
Storm forward Barbara Turner’s team in Turkey is up big, moving her arrival date back. The team is practicing now, so I’ll report back later.
