Triple whammy

It could have been a trifecta attendance nightmare for the Storm, but even with the Mariners playing the Yankees, “American Idol” finalist Blake Lewis parading through Bothell, and stars Sue Bird and Lauren Jackson only making appearances at KeyArena via video clips, there’s a sizeable crowd at tonight’s game.
Exhibition matchups usually only draw a couple thousand fans, in Connecticut the Storm did play before 5,607 fans, but only 3,033 in Indiana. Press row estimated about 6,500 are present tonight.
Fans that did pay to see Bird and Jackson tonight will be able to see the duo Saturday at the team’s 11 a.m. open practice at KeyArena. They’re currently in Los Angeles, trying to fly standby to avoid a four-hour layover that had them arriving at midnight.
Fans, however, will not see rookie Katie Gearlds on Saturday. She’s leaving for Indiana to attend her Purdue graduation that afternoon. She’ll return in time for Monday’s media day.
