This and that

Two snaps: The Storm honored their former play-by-play announcer David Locke before the game Saturday. Coach Anne Donovan and Karen Bryant, the team’s chief operating officer, gave him the game ball of the final matchup that he called at KeyArena — a playoff win against Los Angeles. Locke is currently the play-by-play radio announcer for the Sonics.
Don’t know where Elise Woodward was. Actually, from listening to her nightly radio show on KJR (950AM), I think she was on vacation in Hawaii. But I haven’t heard of plans to honor her, yet. Unlike Locke, Woodward wasn’t an original. She was the color analyst the past six seasons.
Total dis: Spotted in the crowd was new Washington women’s basketball coach Tia Jackson, who’s close friends with Storm forward Wendy Palmer. The two met at a WNBA veteran’s camp when the league first started and clicked.
“They need to have more of those,” Palmer said, reflecting back on the fun the pair had in places like Orlando.
But the Storm didn’t acknowledge Jackson on the KeyArena big screen. Bummer, because folks were wondering if that was her after the game, and the Sonics have acknowledged UW men’s coach Lorenzo Romar in the past. Palmer said Jackson would be able to make it to a few games this summer, so there’s time for another plug.
Lucky charms: Donovan’s family was in attendance, as was new owner Clay Bennett, who gave all of the players little personalized cards before the game. Iziane Castro Marques’ read: “Best wishes to a great season. Go Storm!”
