Point taken

Experience can’t be used as an excuse for not playing well together.
With everyone finally in town, Storm coach Anne Donovan used the past three practice days to acquaint reserve point guard Tanisha Wright with the starters and starter Sue Bird with the reserves.
There were still some awkward moments with both today, which Donovan pinned on varying styles. Wright doesn’t pass as quickly as Bird and will never be as sound a three-pointer shooter, although Wright is improving.
“We’ve been trying to work different combinations this week,” said Donovan, whose team’s next matchup is Saturday against San Antonio. “T needs to understand where her strengths are, what she’s looking for when she’s running the point with our starters. It’s going to help us in the long run. A lot of our play-calls are different based on who’s in the game.”
Donovan is encouraging Wright to give up the ball more quickly and the coach has returned to trying to slide Jackson out to the small-forward position. The Storm tried this during the 2005 season and it was a quick bust because of Jackson’s apprehension at learning the plays for the position.
“We’ve always toyed with L.J. at the three, so we’re going to keep working at that,” Donovan said.
Meanwhile, Donovan would like to find more minutes for center Ashley Robinson, who had a good run of practices, according to Donovan. Robinson subbed for starter Janell Burse in the season opener because Burse had a miserable 13 minutes, but with back-to-back double-doubles from Burse and Jackson playing well with veteran Wendy Palmer as a solid backup, Robinson has been lost in the shuffle.
“If she continues to develop her offense, which she did in these three days … that’ll help her get minutes on the floor,” Donovan said of Robinson.
The Storm will not practice Thursday, spending tonight at Donovan’s condo for a team dinner where the dishes will be judged by a secret taster.
