The return of Greco?

Turns out Michelle Greco and the Storm were talking about a possible return for the former reserve point guard, according to sources. Greco, a UCLA product, was cut for Italian Francesca Zara and the Tanisha Wright experiment after helping the Storm win their 2004 championship. Greco played a total of 73 minutes in 13 games as Australian Tully Bevilaqua was All-Star Sue Bird’s main backup that season.
Greco has been overseas winning titles or leading various Italian teams to finals (and out playing Zara in some cases). But she hasn’t had much interest in returning to the WNBA – unless it’s Seattle where she knows the system. Greco feels like many players who aren’t top-tier: The money and respect sometimes is better overseas, so why run your body through year-round play for pennies in America?
Well, the Storm wasn’t and hasn’t been interested, anyway. Greco would be in her second year of eligibility, the same as recent seven-day signee Shona Thorburn. And Greco is stateside at her Los Angeles home. Plus, again, she’s familiar with the schemes. But, as Storm coach Anne Donovan said, the staff was intrigued by Thorburn in college at Utah and wanted a closer look.
Greco’s cool with the choice. She’s going to continue playing in Italy, where she earned citizenship, and is working with a fellow UCLA alum, who’s a chef, to open a restaurant within the upcoming year. She’s thinking of calling it – wait for it – Greco’s. How catchy!
