Freebies

First cool sighting on the way to the All-Star Game was a T-shirt worn by a young female basketball player at SeaTac Airport that read, “Basketball: Invented by men. Perfected by women.” Too bad that was the only sighting until reaching practice at a Boys & Girls Club today.
The Women in Faith convention was booked about a year in advance at the Verizon Center, not allowing the WNBA to hold its traditional events at the arena. In fact, they can’t even hang a banner, so you really wouldn’t know the game is even happening. And trust me on that, I’m staying across the street from the facility.
The WNBA can’t move its hoopla in until 3:30 a.m. Sunday and the fan jam had to be a few blocks away, too, but that’s good because it’s in a vacant parking lot.
The convention also meant there wasn’t a public practice, which irked many fans, including those who made the trip from Seattle. But Washington Mystics fans didn’t miss out. Those who have been season-ticket holders since the team’s inception in 1998 were invited to their practice and loaded up with freebies, including autographs from players and watching their kids participate in shooting drills.
