Washington third-year guard Laurie Koehn rocked the Verizon Center as she nailed nearly every three-point attempt, plus money balls, to win the second annual competition. The crowd chanted “LAU-RIE!” and she was presented a check that will go to charity.
The scene is entertaining, although there are a lot of WNBA suits roaming around. They may outnumber media, but not sure. There are some empty seats, meaning not many must have been interested in the skills challenge or three-point shootout, but president Donna Orender said the game is a sellout. Good because last season’s curtain at Madison Square Garden for the league’s 10th anniversary celebration was an embarrassment.
