Bench moves

The Storm announced the re-signing of guard Doneeka Lewis, this time for the remainder of the season. But Lewis didn’t play in Sunday’s loss to San Antonio and her most minutes in the past two weeks were six in the blowout win against Indiana on Friday.
Rookie Katie Gearlds also didn’t play on Sunday, which is interesting because before the game, Storm coach Anne Donovan said she’s pairing down the roster to who will play during the postseason. Gearlds has had her rookie moments, but was starting to find her offensive touch and has not been used. She scored 11 against the Silver Stars in the teams earlier meeting in Texas, a game Donovan said the Storm played their best in the second half without All-Star Sue Bird.
As a No. 7 overall pick, you’d expect Gearlds to play a little. But her defense isn’t the best. I sat courtside in New York when Donovan had a stern talk to Gearlds during the win about that, along with running an offense play better.
