Long bus ride

Storm players were clueless to starting center Janell Burse’s impending surgery. It’s been in discussion since she injured the wrist in a loss at Washington on July 24, but teammates found out with media today. All-Star Lauren Jackson seemed the most stunned, stating that she’s going to have to discuss it with the other players as the team heads to the airport to catch their flight to Sacramento now.
Burse is the second player to have surgery this season, following point guard Sue Bird (knee). You have to reach back to forward Adia Barnes’ torn ACL and Kamila Vodichkova’s foot injury to close 2003 for the last time the Storm lost such critical pieces to the lineup.
The good news is that Burse does expect to start against Sacramento, despite aggravating the wrist toward the end of practice today. She’s listed as day-to-day.
