Live from training camp: Tanisha Wright arrives

The Storm is at KeyArena today, handling a special “Media Day” for the late arrivals to camp and getting acquainted with the home court. Media hasn’t been allowed in, yet, but just saw a flash of G Tanisha Wright. She arrived for practice today after being delayed payment in Israel.
WRIGHT POINT: Wright is running the point with Doneeka Lewis, Katie Gearlds, Shyra Ely, Yolanda Griffith. On the second-team, rookie Kimberly Beck is running the point with Daphanie Kennedy, Roneeka Hodges, Kelly Santos, and Ashley Robinson. Rather small lineups, but coach Brian Agler appears to be looking at versatility in players along with executing his system. Wright appears agile and vocal already.
DOMA RETURNS: Rookie Natalie Doma is back on the practice floor after wrapping up school work at Idaho State. She’s currently on the sideline cheering on teammates with Allie Quigley and Kristen O’Neill.
WATER BREAK: Players are grabbing some water. They had the day off on Wednesday, but that wasn’t because they didn’t need to practice. Agler said it was because they were tired and he continues to work the Storm hard. The only players receiving an excuse to rest at times are vets Sheryl Swoopes and Griffith.
NEW PLAY: Agler is implementing another play, having the men play shadow defense. Lewis is at the point with Swoopes and Cash on the wings and Ely and Griffith inside.
WAITING ON A DEAL: CEO Karen Bryant is at practice, giving interviews and looking on at the progress on the floor. She said the Storm still isn’t prepared to make an announcement regarding a television contract for this season. Bryant said it’s just normal negotiations and trying to figure things out within the organization. Something should be announced “ASAP,” she said. The Storm was negotiating between FSN — last season’s carrier — and another undisclosed station.
YO DOWN AND UP: We may have to revive the line “A Storm game doesn’t start until Tully hits the floor,” only we need to sub in Griffith’s name. We’ve watched about 20 minutes of practice so far and she’s gone down three times. Once for a minute that would have made a scribe worry, but it’s Yo that we’re talking about.
STACK ‘EM: The Storm is working in-bound plays under the hoop.
SWOOPES ROLLS ANKLE: Swoopes went down at the end of practice with a rolled left ankle. Agler said later that he expects her to return for Friday’s practice. This is the second injury she’s suffered during training camp. Swoopes is still coming back from back surgery last fall and Agler hopes to play her 20 minutes on Saturday against Indiana to help get her conditioned for the season.
FINAL HUDDLE: Practice is over, finishing with a big huddle. The players gave a big “hoot” to community relations director Rick DuPree, who’s sporting a black velvet hat with a smart gray sports coat — suave.
