Storm cuts Beck

The Storm cut rookie G Kimberly Beck today, giving the Storm room under the cap for further additions and making room on the active roster to play trade pick-up Camille Little. The rise of G Tanisha Wright’s play also made Beck expendable because coach Brian Agler, who’s also director of player personnel, can have either Wright or PG Sue Bird run the offense or play SG.
The team is preparing for the departure of F Lauren Jackson, who’ll miss five games in July to prepare for the Olympics with her Australian national team. Agler said he may want to pick up another post to fill the void, signing players to seven-day contracts. That option begins July 1. If Agler kept Beck on the roster, her rookie salary would have become guaranteed, not giving the Storm room under the cap for additions.
Beck averaged 3.5 minutes with Seattle, having her best outing in the team’s loss to Los Angeles on Tuesday when she started the fourth quarter and nailed her only three-point attempt. She also had two rebounds and one assist in helping the Storm chop a 14-point deficit to nine at the 5:38 mark.
