Storm wins without stars

Heard the Storm locker room was rowdy after their win in Minnesota on Tuesday. Guard Sue Bird led a group missing three of its starters by the time the final horn sounded. Minnesota is young, but to win on the road under those conditions is impressive.
The Storm improved to 2-1 on the four-game road trip without leading scorer Lauren Jackson (20.3). But you could almost say, ‘Lauren who?’ by the way Camille Little is playing. OK, not really. But Little, an undersized post, is averaging 13.3 points and 8.6 rebounds since Jackson’s departure.
Forward Sheryl Swoopes suffered a leg injury in the game and center Yolanda Griffith didn’t start due to a concussion.
Both received treatment on Wednesday, according to a spokesman, but it was an off-day for the team, so it is uncertain whether Swoopes and Griffith will be able to play against Phoenix on Friday.
The Storm practices on Thursday in Phoenix.
In other news, Kristen O’Neill was signed to another seven-day contract. This one is a little perplexing seeing how the month-long Olympic break begins next week. Whatever issues Swoopes and Griffith could have will be dealt with by the time teams return to action Aug. 27. Jackson will return then, too.
