TV Alert

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for AugustusOly 9-1-08.jpgFor those who don’t have access to NBA-TV, sign up for the league’s webcast to see tonight’s matchup between Los Angeles and Minnesota. The Sparks did the Storm a favor the other night by defeating San Antonio. But Seattle didn’t capitalize on the gift of being bumped up to first in the West, losing to Connecticut to stand pat in the standings.
Well, now the Storm (18-10) needs Minnesota (14-13), and the league’s fourth-leading scorer in Olympian Seimone Augustus (19.6), on their side to keep LA (17-12) off their tail. The Sparks are two-games back from the Silver Stars (19-10) for the Western Conference title and homecourt advantage throughout the playoffs. The last thing the Storm wants is to play the Sparks on the road to begin the postseason without Lauren Jackson. Anybody remember 2006? And that was with Jackson.
Plus, with Chicago surging like they should have been doing all along, suddenly the Storm road trip isn’t as peachy as pictured with two teams below .500. Seattle faces the Sylvia Fowles-led Sky (11-17) on Thursday after reuniting with former Storm stars Betty Lennox and Iziane Castro Marques on Tuesday. Their expansion Atlanta Dream (3-26) has already been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.
The Sky is a tough matchup and the Storm could use a Sparks loss tonight to make the game have less impact.
UPDATE: Storm F Sheryl Swoopes did not practice today due to her bruised left heel. She is questionable to start against the Dream, which could move F Swin Cash back into the starting lineup.
