Basketball blog returns

Jackson11.jpgWe’re back! And perhaps you’ve noticed our little makeover. Instead of simply blogging about Washington women’s basketball, which a number of you said you’re interested in reading, or only the Storm, we’re going to expand the blogging to cover women’s hoops as a whole. Our new name? Women’s Hoops Blog.
So, if you’re looking for an update on Storm F Lauren Jackson, I don’t have to wait to tell you she’s averaging 11.3 points in three games of Euroleague play, also helping Spartak Moscow tie for first in the Russian Superleague. Diana Taurasi (Phoenix) is the leading scorer (17.0) and Sylvia Fowles (Chicago) is the leading rebounder on the squad. PG Sue Bird (Seattle) ranks sixth in Euroleague play for assists (5.3).
Since rehabilitating from right ankle surgery in August, which caused Jackson to miss the remainder of the Storm season, including Seattle’s fourth consecutive first-round playoff exit, the free agent averaged 18.0 minutes in three games in the latest online stats. Jackson ranks sixth in three-point shooting (62.5 percent).
But with the new blogging title, I can also add that Kirkland native Cathrine Kraayeveld (New York), ranks 19th in Euroleague scoring (16.0), playing for Slovakia’s Maxima Broker Kosice while former Husky guards Cameo Hicks and Emily Florence are playing in Switzerland. Hicks and Florence’s team, Universite BC Neuchatel, is undefeated at 6-0 in national standings.
Yet, we’ll catchup more with player whereabouts later. For now, know that a lot of the blog features will stay the same. I’ll do “Game Threads” for the Huskies, beginning tonight for their final exhibition game. And I’ll still answer your e-mail questions/concerns in the standard “Mailbag” format. It’s just that now nothing is off limits with women’s hoops. Enjoy!
