Former SPU coach Gordy Presnell has injured Boise State team

TashaHarris.jpgWashington’s game against Boise State will have a different feel. The Broncos lost senior G Tasha Harris 41 seconds into the second half of an 85-76 loss to Washington State on Thursdaywith an apparent Achilles injury. Harris, selected by media as the preseason Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year, is currently being examined by doctors. But coach Gordy Presnell was doubtful she’d return this season. Harris (pictured right by The Idaho Statesman) may qualify for a sixth season, if granted another medical redshirt.
“We’re all just crushed,” Presnell said in a phone interview this morning from Boise. The loss of his prized player put a damper on his return to the area, where he led Seattle Pacific University to a 396-127 record and six conference championships before departing for his native state in 2005.
Harris’ injury is the Broncos’ second hit, suffering an injury to senior G Jessica Thompson, who needed surgery during the offseason.
The Cougars’ (1-1) win did give coach June Daugherty her fourth against the school where she began her career, winning against the Broncos three times as Washington’s coach. And the win snapped Boise State’s 19-game home win streak — sixth longest in the nation.
The Broncos (2-1) play the Huskies (0-2) on Sunday at Edmundson Pavilion. Due to the shock of the injury, Presnell hasn’t even thought about a new starting five. Former Mount Baker High star Courtney VanBrocklin, a 5-foot-7 freshman guard, may be considered.
