No. 12 California upset in Pac-10 tourney

CamilleLeNoir.jpgSouthern California appears to want to make Bracketology interesting this season, upsetting No. 12 California 69-67 today to advance to the championship game on Sunday in the Pac-10 tournament. The Trojans also defeated No. 16 Arizona State in the opening round.
Against the Golden Bears, senior guard Camille LeNoir (pictured right by the Associated Press) led with 25 points on 9 for 15 shooting from the field. Top-seeded Stanford defeated UCLA 73-47 to advance, hoping to win its sixth tournament title.
The Trojans are playing on their home court, which is proving to be an edge despite not having large crowds. It’s just the second time the Pac-10 tourney has been on one of the school’s campuses, originating on Oregon’s in 2002.
“The NCAA tournament is a long shot right now, but who knows if you beat Stanford and Cal,” said coach Mark Trakh earlier this season. “Next year we have six McDonald’s All-Americans on the roster and we’re not done yet. The future is there. The key for us is [health]. But we’ve done a good job with what we’ve got.”
The new predictions for the tournament were released today, but plenty of tickets to the big dance were punched. West Coast Conference champion Gonzaga is still slated to play in the sub-regional at Hec Ed next week.
Can’t wait for “Selection Monday,” which will air on ESPN at 4 p.m. (PST).
