Storm cuts Brazilian Olympian — before training camp opens

SeattleStorm.pngThe Storm cut C Kelly Santos before players could even report to training camp in May.
Santos, who’s 6-foot-3, was looking forward to a return to Seattle, according to a close friend of hers who lives stateside. But Santos’ agent was already concerned that the WNBA limiting rosters to 11 players would hurt her chances to make a living in the U.S. Santos, a Brazilian Olympian, was a deep reserve last season, averaging 2.1 points and 1.3 boards in 22 games last summer. She showed tons of promise with her physical nature and ability to finish inside.
Training camp competition was made more competitive with the Storm announcing their sending an invitation to post Kasha Terry on Thursday. The roster stands at 13 players and the team has eight under contract, leaving space for three signings. One slot is being left open for Australian star Lauren Jackson, an unrestricted free agent. Jackson’s agent said the two-time MVP is not ready to make a decision, but many have her rumored to sign with Phoenix.
