Washington guard leaves program

Husky.jpgWashington freshman guard Nicole Romeo has left the program to return to her native Australia to play. A Coach Tia Jackson recruit, she is the fifth player to transfer from the team in the coach’s two seasons at Washington. Four did leave due to the coaching change from June Daugherty to Jackson, however.
Romeo appeared in 26 games, starting one. She averaged 1.5 points in 6.1 minutes, playing behind junior college transfer Christina Rozier and sophomore Sarah Morton. Shooters Sara Mosiman and freshman Kristi Kingma were also ahead of Romeo in Jackson’s shifty rotation.
There is no word on other transfers this season. Administrators supported Jackson during the season and were not immediately available to comment about Romeo today. We’ll have more in Saturday’s newspaper.
