NCAA Sweet 16: Fear the Turtle, Appel

Appel2.jpgSweet 16 play in the NCAA tournament begins this morning. Even though Seattle only has two locals remaining (Arizona State seniors Briann January and Kristen Thompson), the team’s we’re following on the blog are thriving.
We’ll have a preview for Pitt tomorrow, today is all about No. 1 seed Maryland and No. 2 seed Stanford. The Terrapins face No. 4 Vanderbilt at 11 this morning, after No. 3 Louisville and No. 2 Baylor play for the Elite Eight berth.

Cardinal junior Jayne Appel is getting help inside from freshman Nnemkadi Ogwumike. OSU could reach its first Elite Eight since 1987, but Stanford has advanced in five of the last six seasons.
Appel (pictured right) said that although her team is playing close to home in Berkeley, it won’t give them any extra points. Plus, it’s the site of Stanford’s last loss to California, winning 18 games since.
