Storm forward Katie Gearlds out

Seattle suffered another blow when forward Katie Gearlds injured her left knee during Tuesday’s overtime loss to Phoenix. Gearlds, a reserve, was driving baseline and slipped to her knees. She managed to pass the ball off to a teammate, but suffered an injury.
Gearlds will not travel with the team to Los Angeles this afternoon, hobbling out of the training facility with a black brace on the knee. The Storm said more information would be released shortly.
Seattle, which has a two-game lead over Minnesota for second in the Western Conference, already lost rookie Ashley Walker to a right big toe injury. She’s expected to be out another week as tissue heals. C Suzy Batkovic-Brown was out on Tuesday because of illness, but is making the trip.
The injuries are at a time when Seattle is searching for production from the bench. Storm coach Brian Agler has been slow to play the reserves this season. He said today that his aim is to play the bench more, but now the team is down one more player.
UPDATE: Gearlds will be out four to six weeks after sustaining a torn posterior cruciate ligament in her left knee. The injury occurred during the first quarter of Tuesday’s loss, but Gearlds played in the second and not after halftime.
