Summer check on Washington hoops

Husky.jpgDare we look ahead to the upcoming Washington basketball season? Anything is probably better than looking back on 2008-09 where so many unwanted records were set, only the Web has enough space to list them all. For one, the Huskies finished 3-15 in the Pac-10 and 8-22 overall.
But the summer has been about renewal for the program. Despite rumors, only Australian Nicole Romeo is reportedly leaving the program. And I’m hearing post Regina Rogers is gearing up for the 2009-10 campaign.
Coach Tia Jackson defended Rogers’ conditioning last year, stating the UCLA transfer was slowed by sickness but will be a force in the lineup. We’ll see.
Returnee Mckenzie Argens has been spotted around the Storm camp, completing an internship. But she’s been working out with teammates, too. The UW did a piece on her and Kristi Kingma, who recently helped Jackson with a basketball camp.
You can read that here.
As a side note, returning equipment manager McCall Hall is the “Arena Host” for the Los Angeles Sparks. The job, one of the many internships she has going this summer, is similar to Seattle’s Shellie Hart’s where Hall runs around getting people hyped.
“It was totally unexpected for me to do this,” Hall said.
The previous host left the position and Hall filled the void one night, getting tons of positive feedback. Now she lets loose her big personality for every Sparks home game. If you’re in the area, it’s a treat to see. The Sparks have 11 more home games this summer.
