Former Storm coach Anne Donovan lifted of interim tag

Donovan.jpgNot counting Tulsa, the first coaching vacancy in the WNBA has been filled. Kind of.
The New York Liberty lifted the “interim” tag from Anne Donovan’s nameplate, officially announcing her the coach of the future. Terms of the deal were not released.
Donovan, a three-time Olympian, led the Storm to its sole championship in 2004 — the only woman to win a WNBA title. She was 93-77 overall in Seattle.
Donovan (pictured right) compiled a 7-10 record after taking over the Liberty when coach and friend Pat Coyle was fired in July. Donovan planned to ease her way back into coaching after abruptly resigning from Seattle in November 2007 and coaching Team USA to Olympic gold in Beijing.
“Her experience and leadership skills as both a player and a coach will be invaluable as we battle to get the franchise back to its proper place at the top of the WNBA,” said Liberty president/GM Carol Blazejowski in a released statement.
Los Angeles and possibly the-team-formerly-known-as-the-Sacramento-Monarchs are the only franchises remaining with coaching vacancies.
