Hockey game forces radio change for Washington basketball

Huskies2.jpgIf you’re looking to listen to Washington play at Utah on Wednesday, be sure to flip the dial to KIXI 880 AM instead of the Huskies’ standard KKNW 1150 AM. The main station is airing the Seattle Thunderbirds road match against Kelowna with Thom Buening handling the play-by-play and pre-game show starting at 6:30 p.m.
UW tips-off at 6 p.m. from Salt Lake City with Steve Sandmeyer on the call. It’s a Pac-12 preview. The schools haven’t met since 2005 when the Huskies (2-2) defeated the Utes 63-56 at home. In the 4-4 all-time series record, both teams are undefeated on their home floor and split on neutral sites.
“We were supposed to play them at home, but could not get a date where we could play them (in Seattle),” said Washington coach Tia Jackson, whose schedule was made a year in advance. “We definitely would have wanted them at home and now we’re not going to get that return game because they’re in the Pac-12.
“But it’s regional game and they’re a tough team. They’re well coached and it’s a different kind of make-up. We’re prepared for them, it’s just now we’ve got to have success on their floor.”
Utah (3-3) begins a four-game homestand after losing star post Taryn Wicijowski, a preseason all-Mountain West conference member, to a torn ACL last week. She’ll be out the remainder of the season.
