Storm releases 2011 schedule

SeattleStorm.pngMaya Moore is already taking over the WNBA, the expected No. 1 draft pick’s debut with the Minnesota Lynx will be the actual opener of the league’s 15th season on June 3 in Los Angeles. The matchup also marks the expected return of 2008 Rookie of the Year, Candace Parker, who underwent shoulder surgery last summer.
Seattle will get its championship pageantry on June 4 at noon when it hosts Phoenix at KeyArena on ABC. Moore and what looks to be a scary Lynx team travels to town on June 9 — further testing the Storm’s undefeated record at home.
The Storm will play on national television five times this season and 10 of their 17 home matchups fall on weekend dates, including the Aug. 13 rematch with Eastern Conference champ Atlanta. The Storm swept the Dream in the WNBA Finals.
Based on last season, Seattle does get a break in Western conference matchups. The Storm will play Tulsa and San Antonio five times, going a combined UPDATE 7-1 against the Shock and Silver Stars in 2010. Seattle plays Phoenix, Minnesota, and Los Angeles four times apiece due to there being 12 teams in the WNBA.
Playoff dates and the All-Star game haven’t been finalized.
