Bellarmine Prep star Sarah Hartwell exploring new options

Hartwell.jpgBellarmine Prep coach Kevin Meines described it as “a crazy couple of days,” confirming what The News Tribune first indicated on Twitter — PG Sarah Hartwell asked for a release of her Letter of Intent from Xavier. Multiple sources said the school will honor the request Friday.
Hartwell’s decision partly stemmed from former Xavier coach Kevin McGuff accepting the position at Washington. But Hartwell most likely will not follow McGuff to Montlake, according to Meines. Numerous schools across the country are interested in her and once the second signing period opens next week, Hartwell plans to refresh her recruiting process.
“Whoever signs her is going to get a really special player,” Meines said.
Another Washington product in Holly names star Erika Johnson could also be faced with a tough decision if rumors that California’s Joanne Boyle will be announced as the new Virginia coach are true.
Boyle, who took over the Bay Area position six years ago, said Monday that she wasn’t accepting the position. Multiple outlets in the Virginia area state a switch on that stance.
The Cavaliers are rumored to paying a little over $1 million, but were turned down by legendary player Dawn Staley and former UCLA coach Nikki Caldwell, who accepted a $900,000 slot at Louisiana State.

Boyle would be the third coach to leave the new Pac-12. The past four hires have been men in McGuff, Scott Rueck (Oregon State), Paul Westhead (Oregon), and Michael Cooper (USC).
