Cathy Roberts, the operations manager for the Northside Wizards in the Queensland Basketball League, confirmed former WNBA C Margo Dydek’s death Friday in Australia. Dydek, 37, relocated from native Poland to Brisbane due to her husband’s work and began coaching with the Wizards.
She was pregnant with her third child who also passed, according to information Roberts shared with The Associated Press. Dydek, who initially suffered a heart attack in her home on May 19 and was in a medically induced coma, is survived by her husband David and two children.
At 7-foot-2, Dydek was the No. 1 pick in the 1998 draft to the relocated Utah Starzz. She also played for Connecticut, San Antonio and Los Angeles. She led the league in blocks nine times and totaled 877 in her career.
