WNBA All-Star balloting begins Saturday

ASG11.jpgDespite the Storm not playing like All-Stars in its last outing on Thursday, losing at KeyArena for the first time since September 2009, it’s time to vote your favorites to represent Seattle in the WNBA All-Star game.
San Antonio is hosting the summer showcase, a first for a Western Conference team since Phoenix in 2000. The game will air on ABC at 12:30 p.m. on July 23.
Balloting begins at 5 p.m. on Saturday. The 60 players included on the ballot represent all 12 WNBA teams. Seattle’s usual suspects in PG Sue Bird, F Swin Cash and F Lauren Jackson normally represent the team as All-Stars. It’ll be interesting if reserve Katie Smith, a six-time All-Star, or F Camille Little, whose game is improving, get a nod to attend.
But when Little was asked if it was an aspiration, her response was blunt.
“No,” she said recently. “For me, I just want to win games.”
Voters are asked to select two guards, two forwards, and one center from each conference. A write-in option is also available, allowing fans to choose players not listed.
You can vote daily for your favorite players as starters via wnba.com, and through mobile phones by texting the player’s last name to 6-9-6-2-2 or by visiting the league’s website on any wireless carrier (message and data rates may apply). Since the All-Star game is presented by T-Mobile, the league’s sponsored carrier, its customers will receive an exclusive 15 percent discount code to the WNBAStore.com for voting via SMS.
Fans can also use their Facebook profile information to help create a WNBA.com All-Access account, enabling them to complete a ballot. After submitting their All-Star selections, fans will be able to share them with their friends on Facebook and followers on Twitter.
All balloting ends at 9 p.m. PDT on July 10.
The WNBA will unveil the starters on ESPN2 on July 14 during the nationally televised game between the Storm and Silver Stars at 6 p.m. PDT. The league will announce the reserves – which WNBA head coaches will select – on ESPN2 on July 19, during the game between the Storm and the Chicago Sky at 4 p.m. PDT.

Individual tickets for the game
will be available to the general public at all San Antonio Ticketmaster locations, including by phone at (210) 225-TEAM, or online at ticketmaster.com or sasilverstars.com. Tickets can also be purchased at the AT&T Center Southeast Box Office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. or on weekend event days starting at 10 a.m. or by calling (210) 444-5090.
