WNBA Finals set: Minnesota versus Atlanta

WNBAFinals.jpgAfter Atlanta defeated Indiana 83-67 in the decisive Game 3 on Tuesday, the 2011 WNBA Finals are set. The Dream makes its second consecutive trip, F Angel McCoughtry stating immediately after the win in Indianapolis that her motivation is to win a title in order to meet President Obama.
Atlanta will face first-time Western Conference champion Minnesota in a best-of-five series beginning Sunday at the Target Center. During the regular season, the teams played a home-and-home set in June, which the Lynx won 96-85 and 77-64. But Atlanta F Sancho Lyttle didn’t play in either game due to competition for Spain in the EuroBasket.
The Dream will again be short-handed as Brazilian C Erika de Souza continues to help her country qualify for the Olympics. Unlike some reports, I don’t feel a team allowing a player fulfill national team obligations diminishes the WNBA’s credibility. De Souza will return for Game 2 of the Finals and Atlanta has always had the depth to handle brief absences.
Since the beginning of the season, I’ve had Minnesota as the WNBA champion. Who are you picking?
Here’s the television schedule for the games, all times are PST:
Sunday at Minnesota on ESPN at 5:30pm
Wednesday at Minnesota on ESPN2 at 5pm
Oct. 7 at Atlanta on ESPN2 at 5pm
Oct. 9 at Atlanta on ESPN2 at 1pm (if necessary)
Oct. 12 at Minnesota on ESPN2 at 5pm (if necessary)
