Washington freshmen Talia Walton undergoes surgery

Huskies2.jpgWashington F Talia Walton underwent successful surgery on her right knee Wednesday morning. The freshman had a scope and is expected to need four to six weeks for rehabilitation, but UW coach Kevin McGuff will find out more information this week.
Walton, a 6-foot-2 former Federal Way High star, didn’t play in the Huskies’ Scandinavian tour because she hadn’t cleared her physical. If rehabilitation goes smoothly, she could still play this season. UW is already without leading scorer Kristi Kingma, a senior.
Washington began practice on Tuesday. The Huskies open its first season under McGuff with an exhibition game Nov. 8 against Concordia.
“The system just felt free,” said Kingma of McGuff’s style during two games in Europe before suffering the injury. “We’re all used to following a coach’s system, but his system is not even a strict system, you do your own thing. For a player like me, a lot of my game relies on creating my own shot and seeing different opportunities that emerge even out of a split second and it was fun. The defense was awesome.”
