Storm co-owner Lisa Brummel named to the Connecticut Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame

Lisa Brummel, co-owner of the Storm and top executive at Microsoft, was named part of the Connecticut Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame’s Class of 2013. The ceremonial banquet is in April.
Brummel was a four-sport athlete at Yale who led the basketball team to an Ivy League championship its 1978-79 season. She won another Ivy League title in 1980 with the softball team.
A former Staples High (Westport, Conn.) standout, Brummel joins six others in the class of inductees. One is Honorary Inductee Chris Dailey, the associate head basketball coach at UConn. The Connecticut Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame will also induct a college coach, who’ll be announced at a later date.
“I am truly honored to be inducted into the Connecticut Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame and also proud to represent Yale University,” Brummel said in a news release. “During my college career I had the opportunity to play with great teammates who made me better as a player. Basketball is a team sport and I am grateful to have been on the Ivy League Championship team in 1979 and to have our team make the post season tournament each year during my time at Yale.”
Brummel, who was born in Illinois, is the second of the Storm brass to be honored by their hometown state. In September, CEO and president Karen Bryant was officially inducted into the Snohomish County Sports Hall of Fame. Bryant was a high-school star in Edmonds in addition to helping orchestrate the rise of two professional women’s basketball franchises in Washington.
In other WNBA news, the Washington Mystics stated on its website it would announce its new coach on Tuesday at 1pm (PST). The announcement leaves Connecticut as the only franchise without a coach. Bill Laimbeer (New York) and Fred Williams (Atlanta) were named earlier this offseason.
