The Seahawks haven’t even played a home-opener and we’re already talking about the postseason for the young, electric squad. Yeah, I’m geeked about their potential, too. But the Storm (17-17) is actually headed to the postseason this week, playing top-seed Minnesota (26-8) as the No. 4 seed in the best-of-three opening round. Game 1 of the WNBA playoff matchup is Friday at the Target Center. Game 2 is on Sunday at the Tacoma Dome.
F Tina Thompson capped her 17th regular-season with a 85-73 win against Tulsa before 8,978 on Saturday at KeyArena. She checked out of the game with 1:16 remaining with Seattle up 85-70. Witnesses, including game officials Cameron Inouye, Thomas Nunez, and Jeff Wooten, stood and clapped for approximately five minutes, waiting for Thompson, 38, to step back on the court for an encore wave.
After the final buzzer, Thompson gave a 30-minute speech as part of the post-game ceremony in her honor.
“Force 10, Seattle Storm and StormCrazies,” Thompson said in closing her improvised speech. “Thank you guys for being a part of this journey. The WNBA, all the fans who supported [me] so much; it has been my pleasure and it has been an absolute blessing. Thank you so much.”
So, who’ll win more postseason games? Vote…
