Sue Bird and Briann January team up for USA Basketball on ESPN2 at 4 p.m.

All-Star PG Sue Bird (Seattle) and Briann January (Lewis and Clark HS/Indiana) will play on the same team when USA Basketball hosts an intrasquad game Thursday at 4pm on ESPN2.

The matchup is the first to make final decisions for USA Basketball’s FIBA World Championship team. The eventual 12-player roster will compete in the event in Turkey from Sept. 27-Oct. 5. Bird, 33, is a three-time World Championship medalist and the oldest player in training camp.

WNBA MVPs Candace Parker (knee) and Tamika Catchings (rest) pulled out of contention for a spot on the team.

The Red Team consists of Stefanie DolsonJantel Lavender, Kayla McBrideAngel McCoughtryMaya MooreChiney Ogwumike, Danielle Robinson, Odyssey Sims and Lindsay Whalen.

The White Team is made up of Seimone Augustus, Bird, Tina Charles, Skylar DigginsBria Hartley, January, Nnemkadi Ogwumike and Breanna Stewart.
