Poll: Which team will have the best season among the in-state programs?

In the words of Washington State senior G Tia Presley, “the exhibition was such a tease.”

More than a week has passed since most teams held an exhibition game, a positive because the NCAA has allowed teams more practice time overall, which should produce better competition. But, as always, players want the live games.

Well, the 2014-15 season is hours from tipping, Seattle University playing first among the in-state Division-I schools. SU plays at Long Beach State at noon on Friday.

The Redhawks will debut a young lineup to replace graduated standouts Kacie Sowell, Sylvia Shephard and Ashley Ward. The game will stream on the Big West conference site.

Eastern Washington plays at Utah Valley at 3:30pm on Friday. The Eagles, whose game is expected to stream live, are predicted by media to finish third in the Big Sky conference.

Washington is next, traveling to Oklahoma to play an equally intriguing Sooners team at 5pm Friday. UW seniors Jazmine Davis, a guard, and F Aminah Williams will begin their trek toward possibly finishing their careers as the Huskies all-time leaders in points scored and rebounds, respectively. The game will air on Fox College Sports.

WSU hosts No. 22 Dayton at 7pm on Friday at Beasley Coliseum. A preview of the Cougars’ international lineup was featured in Thursday’s newspaper. The season-opener will be webstreamed at Pac-12.org.

Gonzaga has to wait the longest to get its season going. Dayton will travel to Spokane to play the Zags at 2pm on Sunday at McCarthey Athletic Center. It’s the debut of new GU coach Lisa Fortier, who replaced Kelly Graves. The latter left to coach at Oregon after a 14-year tenure at Gonzaga.

All of the area schools have competitive schedules and talent to have a successful season. Vote on who you think will finish on top.
